THINK BEFORE YOU INK: Lucian Dalton from AfterLife Ink
Local tattoo artist Lucian Dalton, from Afterlife Ink, wants to start his own TV show where he fixes up people’s bad tjappies.
The Mitchells Plain dad of five has his own tattoo parlour in Voortrekker Road, Goodwood, and says he was inspired to document his cover-ups after a client came to his store to transform a badly done tattoo which kept her from getting a job.
Lucian says the client had initials on her forearm which looked “home-made and very ugly” and he transformed it into a pretty rose.
“She said she can't get a job because her tattoo makes people not want to hire her,” he says.
“I fixed her up and two weeks later she called me to say she went for another interview and got the job.
“Because of this, I decided I want to fix someone’s mistakes and bad decisions while documenting their experiences.”
Lucian says he will transform the bad tattoos free of charge in exchange for people to go on camera with him.
The 37-year-old is an established artist who has made a big name for himself in the tattoo fraternity since he started in 2008.
He also did the temporary tattoos for actors in the movie Four Corners.
Lucian is now asking people to submit a picture of their worst tattoos that they want fixed, and he will select people to be on his doccie for a before-and-after experience.
“I will be doing 10 tattoos over the next few weeks and will launch it on my AfterLife Ink YouTube page, although I’m hoping a TV channel will recognise its potential to be aired.”
Lucian believes that tattoos need to be done with attention to detail and encourages mense to get it done right the first time to avoid your body art looking like “tronk tjappies”.
