FAREWELL: Yusuf Daniels and his late father Isgak, 79
Best-selling author Yusuf Daniels has suffered a double tragedy after losing his father to Covid-19 this week.
Yusuf’s mother Jasmine Jessie Daniels, 77, passed away in December 2020 and says he has been left devastated by the passing of his father Isgak Daniels, 79, on Tuesday.
Auntie Jessie was diabetic and passed away at Groote Schuur Hospital from Covid-19 complications.
Taking to Facebook to break the news about his father on Tuesday, Yusuf wrote: “Covid 2 - Yusuf 0 parents. My Dad just passed away.
“It's not easy losing both your parents in six months. But Allah knows best. Alhamdulillah.
“May Allah grant both my parents and all deceased a high place in Jannah.
“For those of you who still have your parents, make the most of them.”
Isgak was laid to rest on Wednesday.
Yusuf tells the Daily Voice that his dad was admitted to Brackengate Hospital a week ago where he was diagnosed with Covid-19.
“He had some trouble breathing and we took him to hospital where he was admitted immediately.
“On Tuesday morning, he was still walking and talking at the hospital and on the same day, three hours later, we were called in to prepare ourselves for his death and he died that day.
“I’m going to miss his dry sense of humour.”
The tragedy comes in the wake of a triple success for the author, who last week had all three of his books in the top five best-sellers list at Exclusive Books.
An excited Yusuf said he could not believe that his books – Living Lekker, Living Coloured and Living the Hustle – were so popular.
“I never ever thought I would see all three of my books in the Top Ten at Exclusive Books or anywhere, oh my gosh, how lekker is this,” he wrote on Facebook.
“Just two years ago I started writing, and now I have three books in the top 10 of an Exclusive Books best seller list.
“Am I really that kwai? Nope. This is pure intervention by my people. This is one of God's plans for me. Alhamdulillah.”
