Mitchells Plain bus busker, Vezz, is on cloud nine after launching his remastered single with the help of sax player Don Vino Prins this week.
The dad of one has been busking on buses to and from the Cape Town CBD in order to provide for his partner and baby son.
Vezz made headlines in April after Daily Voice spoke to him about his busking, using just his speaker boksie for backing tracks.
Following this, Vezz, whose real name is Lance Fortuin, was interviewed by radio stations and newspapers and even landed gigs, the most recent with singers Loukmaan Adams, Mujahid George, Allistair Izobel, Nur Abrahams and Nazneen Leeman at the larney Hotel Sky in Cape Town two weeks ago.
His next big break came yesterday when the HeartFM Breakfast team aired his remastered debut single called Is It Love.
Don Vino says he contacted Vezz after he heard his story.
“Co-incidentally he had a single out already with just his voice and a piano to it,” says Don.
“I then came in and reproduced the song for him, added drums, different elements in the song and my friend from Johannesburg Kenton Lee added the guitars.”
“I’m looking at getting him on to a few shows so he can earn money to look after his family.”
A grateful Vezz says: “I put my music box outside in the street early yesterday morning so that my neighbours could hear my song playing on the radio.
“I am so grateful to everyone who saw me and my vision and reached out a hand.”
Is It Love will be available on iTunes from 20 October.
