Cape Town’s Berry says winning SA Idols will be a game changer for her and her family.
On Sunday, the Bothasig mom of four and Karabo were announced as season 17’s finalists.
The comeback kids will be battling it out for the crown in next week’s Idols SA finale.
Among the 15 000 hopefuls that the two finalists left behind, was S’22Kile, who bowed out on Sunday, after making it all the way to the top 3.
Karabo and Berry also performed their first official singles.
Karabo’s spiritual offering, Hosanna, was a hit with judge Randall Abrahams, who said she knocked it out of the park.
And Berry wowed the judges with her Zulu single, Ungowami, with both Unathi Nkayi and Msaki commending her for treating the language with reverence and respect.
Berry, who has been away from her family since 2 August, says her life has changed since the Idols journey started.
“To be here feels surreal. God has blessed me and I’m so grateful for His goodness,” she says.
“This is life-changing, all I’ve wanted to do with my life is sing.
“Performing on Sunday night felt like the cherry on top to this long season.
“Releasing my first single and seeing the crowd dance made my heart happy.
“We have until 10pm Thursday and I would love nothing more than to bring the Idols crown back to Cape Town this year.”
Berry says her kids – a 2-year-old daughter and three boys aged 8, 9 and 11 – and her hubby are what motivates her.
“My kids are a great support.
“We rent from my mom, we actually live at the back of her house.
“It’s very small, the boys all share a room, Rachel sleeps with me and my husband in our room, we have a tiny en-suite bathroom that we all share and a kitchen, no lounge and no room for anything really.”
Berry says her dream is to buy a proper home for her family if she wins Idols Season 17.
The winner gets R1 million, a brand-new car, as well as clothing vouchers and sound equipment.
