The River and the telenovela Legacy lead the log with 12 nominations each while veteran actor Cedwyn Joel, 68, and his daughter Portia are nominees for their roles in Suidooster.
Cedwyn, nominated for Best Actor in TV Soap for his role as AB Samsodien, says: “I am truly humbled by being nominated, which is a recognition of my contribution to Suidooster and our genre.
“It is also quite rare to be nominated with your daughter making it really special – I’m rooting for her to win the award! Also a big thank you to my colleagues and the team at Suidooster.”
Portia, 41, who plays Lee-Anne Jacobs, is a Best Supporting Actress in a TV Soap nominee.
Portia says: “I am grateful that God has blessed me to work on Suidooster and being able to work with my father. I am proud of both of us and grateful... especially when you know how many hours of hard work you put into your craft. And it is a great privilege to be nominated alongside my dad.”
Kat made headlines last year when his ex-girlfriend Monique Muller accused him of jolling and giving her an STD.
A video of the confrontation, in which he admits to jolling, was leaked and went viral on social media. She also accused him of assault and made a case with the police, but Kat denied the allegations.
The former couple, who have son Phoenix together, went to court after he allegedly broke a protection order.
Kat was replaced by Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp in Outsurance’s ad campaign.
The 15th Saftas airs on SABC3 on Saturday, 22 May at 6.30pm.
