Organiser Sandra Jantjie says through the help of their sponsors and the public, they managed to spoil about 400 kids, who each receiving lunch and a party pack at decorated walk-in venues.
“They were so happy and looking forward to their gifts as this is our annual thing and is sponsored by friends, family, the community, and local businesses.
“This year we couldn’t have a sit-in event due to the Covid-19,” she says.
Unlike other organisations that take a break after their big Christmas parties, Sandra says they’ll continue feeding the needy.
“We’ll feed our community right through the holidays because hunger doesn’t take leave on holiday. Holidays is the worst time where the lines is longer for food,” she says.
In Epping Forest, Michelle Raubenheimer of the Voed and Mondjie also hosted her second annual Christmas party, feeding and handing over party packs to over 300 packs to the children.
A pair of plakkies and nicely wrapped presents were handed out to a snaking queue of children from the neighbourhood.
“Neighbours and friends helped prepare for the big day.
Michellse says: “I grew up poor and know what it’s like to not receive any gifts on Christmas.
“Now everyone can have a special meal or even have a family to celebrate with, so I decided to give them that opportunity to make them feel special."
At Canal Road Educare in Wetton, parents hosted a Secret Santa Party where children swapped gifts.
Principal Marlene Andrews thanked each of them for making the beginning of her learners’ holidays fun and special.
