A Mitchells Plain mom is die moer in after a PEP store allegedly sold her old baby food that she said made her child naar.
Fatima Jahaar, 28, from Beacon Valley says she bought the squeegee packet of Purity at PEP Stores in Town Centre on Saturday and was shocked to find that it had already expired in September.
And after her one-year-old son ate the kos, he started crying and vomiting.
“I fed him and went to the next shop to buy other stuff,” Fatima says.
“All of a sudden my baby was acting up, crying and then started vomiting.
“I didn’t know what was wrong with him as he was just fine before the feeding.
“I realised his temperature was getting high and his stomach was acting up.
“I then checked the expiry date of the Purity.
“To my shock, it was almost a month overdue.
“I don’t understand how they could still have it on shelves if it had expired on the 25th of [September].”
She complained to the store manager but got no joy.
“I was told the baby would be fine and there was nothing they could do.
“I had to pay the doctor twice and miss work because of their negligence... I want answers,” says an upset Fatima.
In a statement to the Daily Voice yesterday, Pep head office said: “We are aware of the alleged incident that occurred at our PEP store in Mitchells Plain where a woman claimed that she bought expired products at the store that subsequently made her child sick.”
“We are still investigating the matter and gathering all the facts from the customer and the store and cannot comment any further.
“We pride ourselves in ensuring that strict quality checks are done on all our products and that our customers are able to purchase the best products from us at the lowest prices.”
