Several crime-fighting organisations in the Grassy Park area have banded together to launch a sanitary pad drive.
The mission to assist vulnerable girls and women was established last month by members of the police, CPF, the Grassy Park Empowerment Forum, New Horizon Civic Association and the local Neighbourhood Watch groups.
Saadiqah Ganief, 24, the brains behind the project says the care packs consisting of pads, tampons, face cloths, sanitiser, soap and other female personal care items will be distributed in Pelican Park, Lotus River, Ottery, Parkwood Estate, Fairways and Grassy Park.
“Menstruation is not a dirty word. It’s a situation all females find themselves in. I figured we could help,” says Saadiqah.
She says the aim is to have 10 000 care packs ready by the end of August, to then be handed out to schools and organisations.
“It’s important for boys and men to also get involved, because it’ll help instil respect for women and aid in the fight against gender-based violence,” she says.
