After tying the knot, a Malibu Village couple returned to the same spot where they first fell in love five years ago – the back seat of a Golden Arrow bus.
Crystal, 31, and Marcel Meltor, 28, met on the 6am Lwandle bus which travels from Malibu Village to Somerset West, where they both worked.
The pair exchanged vows at the New Apostolic Church in Westgate in Mitchells Plain on 1 December, then went to the Westridge Gardens and the Mitchells Plain bus terminus where they asked the conductor on duty for permission to take pictures inside and outside the bus.
Crystal tells the Daily Voice: “This was the really special place where we fell in love, at the back of the bus, the last seat.
“We wanted to include the GABS bus in our wedding album because it serves as a special memory for us and then our photographer Zaahid Appoles said we should go to the terminus.
“It was a really nice experience to go there and use the bus for the pictures that summarised our love story.”
Crystal recalls the magical day they met: “I used to see him every morning on the bus, his friends called me to get my attention but I didn’t take notice of them.
“I used to like to sit in front of the bus, he called me and said I mustn’t sit alone in front in the bus.
“I then went to sit in the back seat with him, we became friends and then exchanged numbers as he wanted to send me a song.
“We ended up chatting for a few months before we actually started dating and we have been living together for two years and decided to get married.”
The couple didn’t have money for a fancy reception or honeymoon, so they settled for an intimate dinner with their parents and siblings at home.
“We had no reception because we paid for everything ourselves...
“We just had something small at home as it is Covid, and about four months ago I had Covid.”
GABS spokesperson Bronwen Dyke-Beyer says: “People spend a lot of their time travelling on our buses and we often hear of life-long friendships being formed, and yes, sometimes people meet the love of their life.
“We wish Crystal and Marcel a life full of joy and good health – what a wonderful way to end 2021.”
