DREAMS: Luke Luxman Marchant of Ruyterwacht
A Ruyterwacht rapper hopes to make it out of the quiet streets of his neighbourhood and make some noise in the music industry.
Luke Luxman Marchant’s music is slowly but surely rocking the airwaves and that’s enough for him to see a brighter future.
His two songs, Lanez on a Langpad and Hope debuted on Bush Radio and Good Hope FM and is a mix of English and Afrikaans which he says is relatable to most Capetonians.
“I also use Cape slang because of the way I talk on a daily basis with my friends,” he says.
“I have two mixtapes out on audiomack.com that have different types of tracks on it, all different topics for different people, but the latest ones I put out now are mostly for clubs.
“When I see people that struggle or when I see children in the street busy doing wrong things, I think that maybe if they could hear me and see me doing good, they would want to follow their dreams too,” says the 27-year-old.
He says fans can also find him on Facebook and Instagram to see his videos and listen to his music.
“I am not always privileged enough to pay for studio time, so I rap in a friend’s car, in my room or anywhere I get inspiration,” he says.
The God-fearing rapper says he grew up in a religious musical family from whom he draws strength and where he inherited his singing talent from.
He is currently unemployed and does piece jobs to fund his dream but says: “The road is tough but it’s a marathon not a sprint.
“Things will get hard but you have to believe that if you keep pushing things will get better."
