It was not to be for Miss South Africa Thulisa Keyi, 26, as Miss Mexico Vanessa Ponce de Leon was crowned Miss World on Saturday.
The 26-year-old model and business graduate became the first contestant from the Latin American country to win the title in Sanya, China.
This year, the 68th edition of the pageant, each continent had a winner: Miss World 2018 Asia and Oceania was Miss Thailand, who was also the runner-up.
Miss World Europe 2018 was Miss Belarus, Miss World Caribbean 2018 was Miss Jamaica, Miss World Africa 2018 was Miss Uganda and Miss World America 2018 was Miss Panama.
Thulisa, a 26-year-old accountant from the Eastern Cape, made it to the Top 30.

This after placing fifth in the Miss World Top Model Fashion Show and taking joint first place at the Miss World Designer Awards.
South Africa’s Rolene Strauss won Miss World 2014, and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters is the current Miss Universe. Tamaryn Green will represent Mzansi at Miss Universe 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand, on 17 December.
