Two security guards who were trying to put bread on their tables have been gunned down in Langa.
The men were escorting a bakery truck on Sunday when the incident happened around 6.30am in Zone 23 near Yanga Cash Store.
The truck was delivering bread when unknown suspects shot and killed the guards aged 37 and 30 before they stole their firearms.
A shocked resident, 23, says: “The shop was already open at the time of the shooting.
“The truck was there just about to unload the bread and the security guards were parked around the corner from the spaza.
“We heard gunshots and I thought it was maybe rubber bullets, but I lay on the ground because I wasn’t sure which direction the bullets were flying.”
She says when it was quiet she went to the scene and found the two deceased hanging out by their car.
“We fear that this may cause the bakeries to stop delivering bread in this area.
“It had become a norm to see the bakery truck escorted by the security guards, but the murder thing is infuriating because it might affect all of us in the end.”
Police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk says no one has been arrested for the incident.
“Langa police are investigating a double murder case after a shooting incident at about 6.30am at a shop in Zone 23, Langa where two security men aged 37 and 30 were shot and fatally wounded.
“The circumstances surrounding this incident are being investigated by the police with no arrests yet.”
