Crime fighters in Mitchells Plain and Strandfontein are calling on government to step in and come up with a plan after two more bodies were found in the bushes along Baden Powell Drive on Wednesday.
This brings the number of bodies found dumped on the stretch between the Wolfgat Nature Reserve and Strandfontein Pavilion to three, including the horrific scene of a woman who was found decapitated on Monday.
On Wednesday, detectives from Mitchells Plain SAPS were called to the grisly scene shortly before 2pm where the bodies of a man and a woman were found tied up.
A source told Daily Voice the bodies were “badly decomposed and it appeared they had been left there to die”.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Novelwa Potelwa confirms the incident and says police are appealing for information.
“Police followed specific information about the two bodies between Gate 1 and 2 of the Wolfgat Nature Reserve,” she says.
“Upon arrival at about 1.50pm, detectives made the discovery of the bodies that were bound and in an advanced stage of decomposition.
“Crime scene experts including forensic experts attended the scene.”
Mitchells Plain Community Police Forum (CPF) chairperson Abie Isaacs says the strip of coastline has become known as “the killing fields of the Cape Flats” where gangs dump bodies undetected.
“It has become a norm to hear that bodies were found dumped there,” says Isaacs.
“We have asked for years for all three spheres of government to sit down and come up with a strategic plan to tackle this.
“The area is very dark and if an actual count was done on exactly how many bodies have been found there, I think people would be shocked.”
In March, Law Enforcement officers caught a group of skollies in the act of dumping bodies near Lukanon Drive in Strandfontein.
The daring gang allegedly killed three men in a drug hit in Eerste River and drove all the way to Strandfontein to discard the bodies.
Strandfontein CPF chairperson Sandy Schuter says that was a “lucky” arrest.
“It never actually happens that people are arrested. We have also taken this up for years but get told because of the vegetation, the bushes cannot be cut,” Schuter explains.
“It’s an ongoing danger and look at how dangerous it is for the community.
“We need better lighting and resources for our coastline.”
Anyone with information about the bodies discovered at Wolfgat are asked to call Detective Sergeant Randall Davids on 082 777 8076.
