Merc 'parks' in Liesbeek canal

It was reported that the driver lost control of the car and plunged into the canal before peak hour.

The driver of the old silver Merc was lucky to walk away without serious injuries.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Andrè Traut confirmed the accident.

Traut said: “This office can confirm that an incident during which a car drove into a canal in Rondebosch took place yesterday, at 7.25am.

“According to information, the driver sustained minor injuries which were attended to at a nearby hospital. The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.”
