Pick n Pay and South African National Parks (SANParks) have egg on their faces after bungling their popular Super Animals collectible card campaign for laaities.

They've announced they will be correcting errors in the educational initiative, including the steenbok card showing a picture of the European Alpine ibex.

While the 39cm Arctic tern weighs a whopping 125kg.

The Super Animals cards are a range of 108 cards that are collected and placed in a collection album.

Customers receive four cards, each featuring a photograph and information about an animal, for every R150 spent in store.

SANParks receives R1 from every collection album sold.

Andrew Pretorius of Pick n Pay Marketing said the retailer has already taken steps to get replacement cards, after shoppers complained about being taken for ‘n aap.

“Our customers love our South African Super Animals collection, and we’re really sorry that a few errors crept in,” said Pretorius.

“Collectors can then come in to exchange their cards for free, or contact us via our Facebook page and we’ll get replacement cards to them.”

“The South African Super Animals app has already been updated with the correct information."

SANParks acting head of communications, William Mabasa, said: “We would like to apologise for the errors, and thank South Africans for their continued support of conservation.”

The campaign will run until 4 June, or while stocks last.
