A Bridgetown boytjie is getting ready to show off his fancy footwork in Thailand, but his parents are sukkeling to fund his trip.

Jaden Mias, 13, has been selected to represent Cape Town at the 2017 Phuket International Youth Football Cup in December.

And in just a week, his parents must fork out R2500 to secure his spot.

Jaden has been playing soccer since he was five.

The young striker plays for Chelsea Bridgetown AFC and the U13 team at Bridgeville Primary School.

“I have always liked soccer and play for my team and my school. I am a Liverpool supporter and my favourite player is Philippe Coutinho. I want to play like him one day,” says Jaden.

His mother, Chantal, says that in May he played trial matches in Athlone and came home heel opgewonde.

“He was so excited! They told us he would be going to Thailand, but just afterwards he said to me they need R26 000 to go. We knew there would be a problem because we don’t have the money,” she says.

Jaden is the only boy in the family and has three sisters.

Chantal says she is unemployed, his father works extra shifts to provide for the family but have min disposable income.

“We can’t afford this trip and we are really trying to get it sorted. We’re living in Bridgetown and it is very hard to raise a boy right, especially with gangsters and tik everywhere. Jaden does so well in soccer and we want to make his dream come true, but there is no money,” she says.

The tournament takes place in December and his parents have until November to raise the funds.

However, his parents now have to raise R2500 by Friday.
