The drama unfolded at the BP garage on the corner of Eisleben Road and Lavender Street, in Lentegeur, known as the “Clock Tower”, around 11.40am.

The robbers were travelling in a white Mazda with the registration CF 137 836.

A police source says: “These were five black males who were positively armed and wore police issued bulletproof vests. The Mazda vehicle has a fake registration, it belongs to a Corsa vehicle.”

The robbers were targeting a G4S security vehicle parked outside a fisheries and gun- pointed a guard.

Captain FC van Wyk says the suspects are still at large.

“It is alleged that five unidentified armed suspects approached a security cash van and they took a cash bag with an undisclosed amount of cash from one of the security guards,” says Van Wyk.

“No-one was injured and no shots were fired during the robbery. The suspects fled the scene in a white Mazda. A cash in transit robbery case was opened for investigation,” he says.
