A Durban car guard was fined R200 for begging in public by the Metro Police.
Donovan Pillay, 49, was fined under the municipal nuisance by-law for begging in a public space, reports the Daily News.
Pillay, a car guard for five years, thought it was a joke when a metro cop approached him at the Westcliff Centre.
“She asked if I had a badge or card to prove I was a car guard. I don’t have one, but everyone knows me here. I did not argue with her,” he says.
“I earn between R50 to R60 a day, seven days a week between 7.30am and 5.30pm. My money goes for bread, milk and utility bills.”
Shop owners in the area called on cops to rather arrest DVD salesmen, who sell pornography.
