The City of Cape Town will be introducing 29 new bus stops and new and more direct routes for MyCiTi commuters from the end of this month.
Mayoral Committee Member for Transport and Urban Development, Councillor Brett Herron says a comprehensive review was done on the service and improvements made.
“The outcome of the review and the survey informed us of where we needed to tweak the service to respond to our commuters’ needs, and to better match the service with the passenger demand,” he said.
Herron stated MyCiTi buses cover 1 456 506km per month on average with 60 913 weekly commuters.
With the upcoming changes, a whopping 150 000km will be added to the service.
“We will extend popular routes in the inner city, Table View, Atlantis, and Century City with 29 new bus stops.
“We will also introduce new routes, and more direct routes with fewer transfers,” Herron said.
The changes are set to begin on 27 October and among the changes is a new route to District Six and Zonnebloem.
Direct routes will operate between Upper Kloof Street, V&A Waterfront, Civic Centre, the Clock Tower precinct, Oranjezicht and Sea Point.
Three new stops will be added to the Parklands East area. A direct route will operate from Table View to Duynefontein via Melkbosstrand.
Direct routes will operate between Du Noon, Montague Gardens, Marine Drive and Century City.
Herron said numerous stops have been added to the Atlantis routes to better serve Beacon Hill and Sherwood Park.
