Ashley Booysen and Templeton Williams jailed Ashley Booysen and Templeton Williams jailed
It's a job well done for Cape Flats cops after hefty sentences were handed out to three murderers from Elsies River and Philippi East recently.
Major-General Sizakhele Dyantyi, Nyanga Cluster commander, says the station commanders and detectives did exceptional work to bring the three men to book for murder cases, one of which dates back to 2011.
In the first case, Xola Duku, 35, was found guilty of murdering Mkhuseli Tuku on 5 June 2011 in Lower Crossroads.
Dyantyi explains: “Officers were called to the scene at 1am where they found the 41-year-old victim in his bed with seven stab wounds to his upper body.
“His succumbed to his injuries as he lay in his bed.
“Duku was found guilty at the Khayelitsha Priority Crimes Court and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, of which three years are suspended for five years.”
Elsies River gangster, Ashley Booysen, was found guilty of murdering a rival gang member and sentenced to 16 years behind bars in the Parow Regional Court.
Dyantyi says on 23 May 2016, Booysen, who is a member of the Terribles gang, shot John Jacobs, 46, multiple times in Grabouw Court, Elsies River.
“The senseless murder was gang-related and Booysen received 16 years in prison for the murder, five years for the illegal possession of a firearm and 12 months for the [illegal] possession of ammunition in the Parow Regional Court.”
In the third case, a 29-year-old Elsies River man was sentenced to 15 years in jail for shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend in Epping Forest. Sentencing was also in the Parow Regional Court.
Dyantyi says Templeton Williams, 29, shot Floyd Jansen, 37, in Kent Crescent on 2 December 2017.
“Jansen was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body,” he explains. “This ruthless murder seemed to be a crime of passion.”
Dyantyi says Elsies River detectives worked hard on the cases. “They left no stone unturned presenting water-tight and factual evidence before court that beyond a shadow of a doubt saw the perpetrators found guilty of committing these heinous and senseless murders.
“Although these murders happened a year apart, the sentencing and closure of the cases was in November this year.
“These successes come as a result of loyal and dedicated detectives in the Nyanga Cluster.”
