OUT ON BAIL: André Naude OUT ON BAIL: André Naude
Police are keeping mum following a raid at the home of controversial businessman André Naude in Plattekloof on Friday.
Naude is the right-hand man of alleged underworld kingpin Mark Lifman.
Naude owes the taxman over R10 million and last week they came to collect.
An order by the Western Cape High Court allowed the Sheriff to confiscate all removable furniture from three of Naude’s properties in Plattekloof, Durbanville and Bellville, stating Naude owes the taxman R10 870 462.59.
“... you are directed to attach and remove and take into execution the moveable property of André Naude”, the court document reads in part.
Police swooped on the house in Eksteen Street, Plattekloof after 11am on Friday.
Furniture, TVs and other household items were carried out of the larney house by officials from the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) and South African Revenue Services (SARS).
A witness at the scene said: “They were carrying out couches, TVs and his theatre room.
“His wife and son were also on the scene, but the wife had a lawyer there.”
Police did not want to divulge any details and spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel André Traut, says it is an ongoing investigation.
“Kindly be advised that this office is not in a position to provide you with information or a comment regarding an ongoing police operation at this stage,” Traut said yesterday.
Naude and alleged private investigator, Sam Farquharson, are currently out on R10 000 bail each.
They face charges of intimidation, extortion, assault, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm and attempted kidnapping.
It is alleged the two tried to extort a Blaauwberg business.
They are expected back in court on 15 May.
