Police are investigating a case of robbery after an MTN store was robbed on Wednesday morning at Zevenwacht Mall in Kuils River.
Just after 9am when the store opened, four men, two of them armed, stormed in.
The suspects held up and threatened the frightened staff and customers, while a staff member was also assaulted by one of the armed suspects.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, says no shots were fired and the skelms fled with an undisclosed amount of money and cellphones.
“A case of business robbery has been opened for investigation by Kuils River police after four unknown men, two armed with firearms, entered a cellular telephone shop at a shopping mall in Kuils River.
The incident occurred about 9.15am on Wednesday.
“According to reports, the suspects threatened the complainant (staff and customers) and robbed the store of an undisclosed amount of money and cellular telephones from the store,” Van Wyk said.
The suspects fled in a getaway car.
“One of the suspects also assaulted one of the staff members. The suspects fled the scene in a silver VW Polo and are yet to be arrested. No shots were fired during this incident.”
Police are asking anyone with information about the robbery or the whereabouts of the suspects to please come forward.
Zevenwacht Mall management sent out this statement after the incident, "We confirm that an incident did take place at Zevenwacht Mall and that the matter is under investigation by the SAPS. No patrons and or staff members were injured during this incident. The safety and security of all our patrons is of high importance to us at all times."
