Residents believe a gang war is brewing after three people were shot in Mamre, near Atlantis, resulting in one death on Wednesday evening.
The area has been quiet for weeks after gang war raged in the areas earlier this year.
Now residents say, with the latest shootings, they fear the worst.
Just after 6pm, unknown gangsters entered Mamre and open fired on the corner of Klapmuts and Louwskloof streets.
Three people were injured and one unidentified male bled out and died on the scene.
A resident says Mamre is a known hideout for gangsters from Atlantis, however, the increase in gangs makes the latest shooting dangerous.
“It was quiet here. Many times the gangsters from Atlantis would hide out in the area, but since the gangs came here they also recruited members in the area,” she says.
“Now this will just cause a war. We know how many people have died in Atlantis because of the shooting, so what is going to happen here. Die is ’n klein plekkie.”
Police spokesperson, FC van Wyk, confirms: “The circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on Wednesday at about 6.30pm on the corners of Klapmuts Street and Louwskloof Street, Mamre, Atlantis where a 25-year-old man was shot and fatally wounded and two others, aged 22 and 27 years old, were shot and injured are under investigation.
“A murder and two attempted murder cases were registered for investigation.
“[The] motive and suspects are unknown at this stage. Both wounded victims were taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.”
