Metro cops have arrested two alleged hijackers, one of whom pretended to be the victim while the other had hidden in the bush.
Metro Police spokesperson, Ruth Solomons, says cops noticed four men off-loading goods from a Nissan bakkie to a Toyota Avanza in Blueberry Hills in Blue Downs on Thursday night.
When approached, the suspects fled and opened fire on cops.
She says one of the suspects later came to police claiming he had been hijacked.
“An alleged hijacker came off second best when he tried to pull a fast one on Metro Police officers,” explains Solomons.
“Officers spotted a Toyota Avanza and a Nissan bakkie in the Blue Downs area.
“They became suspicious when the vehicles turned into a dark side street in Blueberry Hills.

“On investigation, officers found four men loading items from the bakkie into the Avanza.
“The suspects ran away at the sight of the officers, and during the
pursuit, they also fired several shots at the officers.
“One of the suspects, a 25-year-old man, was found hiding in the bushes and arrested.
“About two hours later, a man arrived on scene, claiming he had been hijacked.”
But Solomons says cops had recognised him from the group they had seen earlier: “Officers recognised him as one of the drivers of the two vehicles at the police station.
“He was linked as an accomplice in the hijacking of the bakkie in Paarl East earlier (on Thursday)
by the suspect who had been arrested earlier.”
Both men were detained at Kleinvlei SAPS for further investigation.
