Two years after an

innocent 17-year-old boy was shot and killed in

Mitchells Plain, the case has been transferred to the

Western Cape High Court.

The suspect, Shaylin Naidoo, 26, an alleged

member of the Yakkies gang, appeared at the Mitchell’s Plain Regional Court on Wednesday.

The State is set to prove that Naidoo shot and killed

Manuel Hamilton, 17, on 24 February 2017 while he was at a tuck shop in Diamond Street in Rocklands.

Two other persons were also wounded during the shooting.

It’s alleged that the gunman had targeted someone else.

On Wednesday, it emerged that Naidoo faces 13 charges which includes three murder charges, four attempted murders, three charges of the illegal possession of ammunition, as well as three charges of the illegal possession of a firearm, in unrelated incidents.

WANTS JUSTICE: Joan van Niekerk

Details of the other cases will be revealed during the trial.

State prosecutor,

Darren Johnson, indicated that assessors for the High Court reviewed the docket.

The matter was postponed to October 8 for a High Court trial date to be announced.

Manuel’s mother, Joan Van Niekerk, says she is relieved that the matter will be finalised soon and is

calling for justice for her son’s

senseless death.

“I know justice is going to take place and there has been an overwhelming support from my family and friends.

“‘I just want justice for my child. He didn’t deserve such a death.

“He was an innocent child, just visiting the tuck shop.

“We are happy that the case is reaching the end and that it will be at the Cape High Court.”
