It has been over a month and there is still no sign of a Cape businessman who was kidnapped in Epping.

Mohammad Noor Karriem, 64, from Cravenby was abducted outside his Sweets for Africa shop in Christian Avenue, on Monday, 23 September just before 11am.

While his family remains tight-lipped, police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel André Traut on Tuesday confirmed Karriem was still missing.

“Kindly be advised that the case is still under investigation,” Traut said.

Sources close to the family state they are fearing for his life.

“They do not know what to do and who to trust, that’s why they’re guarded with everything,” the source said.

Days after his kidnapping, a R20 million ransom was allegedly demanded by kidnappers. However, there has been no indication whether the family has taken the offer.

Karriem is the sixth businessman to have been kidnapped in the Cape in four years.

In July last year, Liyaqat Parker, 65, a close friend of Karriem, was kidnapped by five men at his business premises near N1 City in Goodwood.

In July 2017, three armed men kidnapped Sadeck Zhaun Ahmed in Victoria Street, Woodstock. Ahmed owns Zhauns Business Opportunity Machines and was released a month later.

In October 2016, Athlone businessman Naushad Deshmukh Khan, 46, was snatched outside his business.

Two months later, Khan was found wandering dazed in Thornton.
