Authorities say two men and a 17-year-old girl were caught in the act in the early hours of Sunday morning illegally digging up cables at Delft Sports Field.

The community contacted the neighbourhood watch after seeing three people digging holes on the field in Main Road.

Law Enforcement officers were also called and the three tried to flee.

The two men, aged 33 and 30, as well as the girl are allegedly known as skelms in the area, robbing and threatening people and stealing cables.

The teen allegedly begged to be released and cried upon her arrest.

The City’s Wayne Dyason says: “On Sunday at 5.30am at the Delft Sports Field off the Main Road in Delft, the City’s Law Enforcement Metal Theft Unit arrested three suspects.

“Two males, aged 33 and 30, and one female minor were taken in.

“The suspects were caught red-handed allegedly stealing the electric cable of the sports field’s floodlights.

“This type of vandalism and downright criminality has a devastating impact on local sports organisations who depend on these facilities to provide recreational activities that keep the youth engaged and off the streets.”
