A Mitchells Plain dad says he is gatvol of his child’s school principal, who claimed he was not aware the boy had allegedly been bullied by a group of classmates, even though his son had been left with a blue eye.

The incident happened on 23 October at Hillside Primary School in Rocklands.

The 35-year-old father says at the time, he was called to the school by an administrator who said his 10-year-old son had been in a fight and was injured.

The boy told his father he and his nine-year-old brother were grabbed by a group of boys and while some held his brother, two beat him up.

“My boys are both obviously traumatised and except for his class teacher telling me she had spoken to the boys in question, not one thing was done to discipline them,” says the dad.

“The school has ignored me for six weeks, while those bullies walk around as if nothing

happened.”

He says the principal finally saw him on Monday, only to claim he was unaware of the incident.

“This is pathetic and very unprofessional. I need the department to step in,” he adds.

Reported: 10-year-old boy got a blue in fight

WCED spokesperson Bronagh Hammond says the district was only made aware of the incident on Monday, and it appears the father had only brought up the fight after finding out that his younger son had done poorly in the exams.

She says the fighting incident happened outside the school while learners were waiting for transport.

The boys were apparently playing when things turned “aggressive” and the 10-year-old hit another boy who retaliated,

giving him a blou oog.

The boy’s eye was treated at school, and all the parents were called in.

Hammond says the second learner apologised and the matter was resolved.

“This week, the matter was raised when the first learner’s parents were called in to discuss the first learner’s siblings

academic record.

“The parent was not happy with the discussion regarding his son’s results. The first incident has been raised following this second interaction about the report.”
