A busy clothing store was robbed in brought daylight in Athlone on Wednesday.
An area in the normally buzzing Gatesville was cordoned off as cops investigated a robbery at Pep Stores on Klipfontein Road.
Two armed suspects pretended to be customers before they walked up to staff and started threatening them.
They then helped themselves to cellphones and cash before fleeing in a getaway car.
A woman, who was at a nearby store, says she almost ran into the skelms.
“I was thinking of going into Pep Stores, but I am glad I did not. As I came around the corner, these guys ran out and jumped into a car that came out of nowhere fast.
“People were screaming and I knew something was wrong. I asked for help on one of my crime chats,” the woman says.
The woman says she did not take notice of the colour, make and model of the car as “I don’t know cars”.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, confirmed the incident and says no arrest have been made as yet.
“A business robbery case has been opened for investigation after three suspects perpetrated a business robbery at a clothing store in Klipfontein Road, Rylands, in Athlone .

“According to information, the suspects threatened employees and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money and cellular phones.
“Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation with no arrests so far,” Rwexana said.
Pep did not respond to queries.
