GONE: Mom Cheryl Blauw, 41 GONE: Mom Cheryl Blauw, 41
A heartbroken Heideveld man will spend Christmas without his wife of 13 years after she was killed when a taxi driver allegedly jumped a red robot and crashed into a car.
The shocked family of Cheryl Blauw, 41, say they cannot believe the beloved mom of two is dead in the crash, which caused her Opel Kadett to slam into a street pole.
Husband Chris, 44, who is also a taxi driver, says he was on a return trip from Claremont when a fellow taxi driver told him his wife had died in the crash.
“She was on her way home from dropping the nurses at Lentegeur Hospital when the accident happened,” the shocked man says.
“From what we know, the taxi driver jumped the red robot and hit a VW Polo which crashed into her and caused her car to hit the pole.
“Cheryl was a housewife and did the trips for the nurses to earn an income to help in the house.”
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, confirms the accident on the corner of Duinefontein and Ascension road at 7.10am yesterday.
“According to reports, a white Toyota Quantum taxi driving along Duinefontein Road towards the police station, disobeyed a red traffic light and collided head-on with vehicles crossing the intersection.
“The female, a driver of one of the vehicles crossing the intersection, was killed on impact, leaving the others with minor injuries.
“A culpable homicide case has been registered for investigation. No arrest has been made.”

Chris says shortly after hearing the news, his traumatised son, Brandon, 20, suffered an epileptic fit.
“He had fits when he was younger, but not recently,” says Chris.
“He went into shock because his mother died and he is now in hospital.
“We are all in shock and cannot believe she is gone. My other son, Kayden, 13, is with his ouma.
He adds: “Cheryl was a devout Christian. The type of person who would do anything to help other people.
DEVOTED: Cheryl’s Bible
“You can see her Bible is still open on the table (from that morning) and now Christmas is still coming,” the grieving husband says.
