Mense help home after porn scandal

Schaapkraal residents and farmers have come out to help restore the Beitun-Nur Home for
Destitute Children which has been rocked by a child
pornography scandal.
Just a week after the administrator and chairperson of the home for jong meisies whose parents cannot care for them resigned, the community and new committee have stepped up to ensure the home is
compliant.
Zona Morton says residents and farmers have given the building a paint, cleared the playgrounds and donated fresh food to help feed the 11 girls aged between three and 16.
She says in preparation for the girls’ return to school today, they also donated uniforms, stationery and brand-new school shoes so the traumatised girls can put their best foot forward at the start of the new academic year.

“We are working hard to ensure the home is compliant with the health and safety standards set out by the department of social development and we are working towards ensuring the home is properly
registered,” says Morton.
“The cameras in the hallways and prayer room have been disconnected to ensure the girls feel safe.
“Many of them were brought back to the home as the parents feel secure with myself and committee member Roegshanda
Pascoe being in charge.”
When the Daily Voice
visited the home yesterday, the meisies could be seen laughing and playing while volunteers arrived to continue working on the
building.
“We are getting there and more people came to help. We believe that being transparent is what sparked the outpouring of help and donations,” adds Morton.
