Two men have been arrested after a gang of 10 robbers looted a butchery in Mitchells Plain this week.

The skelms were caught on the CCTV cameras of DC Meat Market in Mitchells Plain Industria on Wednesday.

Footage shows 10 men walking casually into the butchery before one man, dressed in a brown hoodie and a hat, pounces on a cashier and raids cash from the till.

The other men start grabbing groceries like rice and eggs from the nearby shelves as shocked customers look on.

When the security guards realise what is happening, they rush to close the doors while frightened customers storm out.

The robbers then rush to the door with their stolen goods and force their way out.

The 29-second video went viral on social media.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa says two men were caught and arrested on Thursday and are expected to make an appearance in court soon.

Potelwa explains more arrests are expected: “On Thursday, April 16, as part of an ongoing police investigation into the looting incident that took place at a local meat market in Bravo street, Mitchells Plain Industria, police have arrested two suspects.

“The suspects are aged 29 and 33-years-old.

“They face a charge of business robbery. They are expected to soon appear in court.

“Investigation is continuing and more arrests are imminent.”

Sources say the men are part of a local gang in the area.

The theft follows several incidents in which skollies exploited lockdown desperation by looting and robbing shops in Manenberg, Sherwood Park, Nyanga Junction and Gatesville this week.

Three men were arrested in Tafelsig and four in Gatesville.
