CONCERN: Police at Bontas base not feeling well CONCERN: Police at Bontas base not feeling well

More Metro Police officers have tested positive for the dreaded Coronavirus in Cape Town.

According to multiple sources, officers at the Philippi and Bonteheuwel bases heard some of their colleagues were sick at home.

A source says the base in Philippi where officers of the Gang and Drugs Task Team (GDTT), the Tactical Response Unit (TRU) and Area South are stationed were informed of four infections on the base.

“It was one GDTT officer and three from TRU who tested positive. Some of the buildings on the base have been closed.

“Some have gone for testing and are in isolation, but they are all very scared because the facilities like the gun safes and toilets have not been decontaminated and these are used by everyone.

“We also heard there were cases at the Area North base in Bonteheuwel and it was only opened this week again.”

Last week City Executive Director for Safety and Security Richard Bosman confirmed that the Khayelitsha base was decontaminated after one officer tested positive while three officers at the Traffic Management Centre had the virus.

City Communications Director Priya Reddy would not confirm the latest infections, instead saying: “We can confirm that since 26 March to date 14 employees from the Safety and Security directorate have tested positive for Covid-19.

CONTINGENCY: Priya Reddy

“The City employees who have tested positive for Covid-19 are receiving medical attention.

“All employees who may have had contact with the officers who have tested positive are currently in isolation and have been tested as well.”

She said the City has contingencies in place to ensure operations continue as per normal.
