A family from Joburg needs help finding a long lost relative they believe now resides in Mitchells Plain.
Annelize Martin, 27 and her father, Daniel, 49 from Johannesburg, are searching for her estranged aunt who they think lives in Lentegeur.
According to Annelize, her father’s estranged sister, Charmaine Alexander visited them in Johannesburg in 1997, after her grandma, Christina Martin, surprised the family by telling them that she’s got another daughter.
“She left Johannesburg and went back to Cape Town after her visit. Then, my grandma saw her in Cape Town in 2003 while she was visiting. At that time, the two of them weren’t speaking,” says Annelize.
“In 2008, my grandma passed away. We found a contact for Christina and we notified her of her mother’s passing.
“That contact became non-existent after a while. She provided a contact number of a neighbour. The neighbour got irritated with us.
“She was extremely rude and said my aunt shouldn’t give contact numbers to people that she doesn’t know,” says Annelize.
She says her aunt was living in Mitchells Plain when they notified her of her mother’s passing.
“At that time, she was living with her stepmother in Lentegeur. She only responded to us after the funeral and that was the last communication we had.”
Daniel tells the Daily Voice that he’s longing to build a relationship with his sister.
“We didn’t grow up together.
“I want to be reunited with her because I want to know how they’re doing. I am longing for a relationship,” says Daniel.
