The City of Cape Town has announced it will be engaging with residents of District Six in order to draft a neighbourhood plan.
The national government has commenced with its work to redevelop the historical area through its restitution process and is responsible for the redevelopment and construction of houses for beneficiaries.
The City's Marian Nieuwoudt said the City will be responsible for the local spatial development framework and the approval of land use and building plan submissions.
She said this process of development will be undertaken in collaboration with the District Six community, other residents and interested and affected parties.
“I will make an announcement about the upcoming engagements in due course given that we are still in the process of obtaining approval from the local sub-council to commence with the process,” she said.
The plan is to formulate a vision and policy guidelines and intervention projects which will assist in re-establishing and creating a sense of belonging to the area.
