GONE: Reymond Samuels

The body of a man, who went missing at sea on Sunday, was found on Thursday afternoon at Hout Bay Harbour by local divers.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana said a death inquest case has been opened for investigation after a body of an identified man was found.

“Post mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death,” she said.

On Sunday the National Sea Rescue Institute launched a search for a Hout Bay man who was believed to have been scuba diving earlier in the day.

Remain Silver, 23, confirmed the body that was found yesterday was that of her friend Reymond Samuels, 23, who went missing.

She said on Sunday local divers were stopped by police when they were searching for him.

“Police came and stopped the divers from looking for him and said they will look for him themselves and they did not do a good job because they would have found him on the same day,” says Silver.

She says the police divers only came back for two more days during the week and still could not find him.

She said if it was not for the local divers going back again yesterday to look for him he would never have been found.

“Local divers took their own boat again yesterday to go look for him because the water was much better than it was the past few days and it did not take long before they found his body,” says Silver.

She added that it has not been an easy past few days for Samuels’ family who were eager to find their son.
