A high-ranking member of the Terrible Josters gang got a rude awakening on Wednesday when cops raided his home and found an assault rifle.
Manenberg station commander, Brigadier Sanele Zama, says the 26-year-old man known as “Slow” was not fast enough and got a skrik when cops entered his Wendy house in Tambo Village shortly after 1am while sleeping next to his girlfriend.
He says an intelligence operation conducted by Manenberg SAPS and the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) was conducted in the early hours as cops went on the hunt for the man who is a suspected hitman and drug merchant for the Terrible Josters.
“There have been various shootings in the area recently where he was fingered as the suspect,” says Zama.
“Officers searched his Wendy house in Amandla Street because he is wanted for various murder and attempted murder cases.
“They found him asleep at his girlfriend’s house and during a search they found the 9mm assault rifle hidden under the mattress.
“He was also found in possession of 13 packets of tik and a small amount of cash was also confiscated. He will be appearing in Athlone Magistrates’ Court soon.”
Zama says officers are keeping a close eye on gang activity in Tambo Village after information surfaced about tensions between the Hard Livings and Terrible Josters.
“The Terrible Josters set up camp in Tambo Village last year and according to the information that we received following the shootings, it appears that a member of the HLs, who recently came out of prison, tried to open a drug outlet in Tambo Village from his mother’s home and this is where the conflict between the two gangs stem from,” says Zama.
“At this stage we are monitoring the situation, but we will not tolerate a turf war in Manenberg.”
