EX-CELL-ENT DANCE MOVES: Pollsmoor Prison officials doing the #JerusalemaDanceChallenge

A group of about 40 Correctional Services officials at Pollsmoor Prison this week decided to put on their dancing shoes, and do the #JerusalemaDanceChallenge.

Jerusalema, the chart-topping hit by South Africa’s own Master KG featuring Nomcebo, was released in December 2019, and has already garnered over 100 million views on YouTube.

Since its release, the track has got the world moving and shaking, with people from all walks of life participating in the dance challenge.

Across the globe, Law Enforcement officials, priests and frontline workers have also been sharing their videos.

It’s believed the challenge started in Angola where a group of friends taped a clip of the dance moves that have since gone viral.

Now a video recorded at the notorious tronk on Wednesday has already been viewed more than 4000 times on Facebook.

In the clip, a group of women wearing their brown uniforms and masks, can be seen shaking their boots to the rhythm.

The prison’s spokesperson Lewies Davids says this was done to celebrate the fact the majority of its infected staff recovered from the deadly Coronavirus: “The Western Cape region decided to participate in the dance challenge to celebrate that over 90% of its workforce recovered from Covid-19, and returned to work.

“This initiative came from officials and the Regional Commissioner, Delekile Klaas, who fully supports this initiative.

“It portrays the unity amongst officials as the pandemic was not an individual fight, but a collective fight where all of us were affected in our households, workplaces and communities.”

Davids adds that 10 prisons in the Western Cape, as well as the regional office, will also participate in the challenge in the next few days.

“We never thought we’d make it this far,” adds Davids.
