RECOVERY: Rosalene Finck was shot
An Elsies River mother says she’s praying that her daughter makes a full recovery after being shot by skollies.
This after Chrystal Smith’s daughter, Rosalene Finck, 13, was shot and wounded in Clarke Estate on Saturday.
The teen was playing with friends outside her Tweeling Court home at about 4pm when rival gangs began shooting at each other.
Chrystal, who’s been living in the court for eight years, says she was in her room when she heard shots.
A few minutes later, Rosalene’s twin brother, Roger, and some neighbours came running up the stairs to tell her that her daughter had been caught in the crossfire.
“Rosa het nie eers geweet sy was geskiet nie, sy het niks gevoel nie, en het eers besef toe sy in haar bene begin lam raak,” says the mom.
“The bullet went right through her body, but it grazed her kidneys.
“She complained about pain in her abdomen and we called the ambulance and they operated on her at Tygerberg Hospital. My daughter needs trauma counselling because she is scared.”
The mother says she is sad and is still coming to terms with the fact that her child could have died: “I am in shock and I could not sleep, I was praying the whole night. Ek wou tot by die jongens gaan, my suster moes my keer.”
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk says detectives are probing an attempted murder case and no arrests were made: “According to reports, the 13-year-old victim was outside when two unknown males came around the corner of the flat, started shooting and shot the victim in the lower abdomen.”
