SHOT DEAD: Jessica Hendricks and Paul Haai

Bail was denied for the man accused of murdering an Elsies River couple last month in the Goodwood Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Oscar-Lee “Okkie” Adams faces charges of murder after he allegedly killed Jessica Hendricks and her boyfriend Paul Haai on 9 August.

He also faces a charge of attempted murder for shooting and injuring a 16-year-old boy.

Yesterday, Adams appeared in a closed court for his formal bail application, which was denied.

The matter was postponed to 15 September and the suspect remains in custody, the clerk of the court confirmed.

Jessica and Paul were killed in cold blood on Women’s Day when their killer chased after someone in the Clarke Estate area and mistook Jessica as their target.

At the time, she had just entered her Wendy house when the suspect saw her door closing, ran up to her and shot her.

When they saw her partner inside, Paul was also shot and he later died in hospital.

The couple were both laid to rest on Saturday.

Jessica’s family says they are still battling to make sense of everything that has transpired.

Sister Jacqueline says the past month has taken a toll on them all: “Dit gaan nog tyd vat om vrede te maak met wat gebeur het.

“The law must take its course. Jessica’s children are traumatised and the youngest one was crying again here today.

“It’s her birthday on Saturday and we asked her if she wanted a party, but she said she rather wants to visit her mommy at the cemetery.”

The grieving family says they’ll be following the court case closely.
