Nyanga SAPS have asked the public for help following the murder of four men in Crossroads on Sunday evening.
Police say the five men were sitting outside in Noxolo Street when three suspects in a white VW Golf stopped and opened fire.
Nonceba Dyantyi, the sister of one of the victims Lungile Xelelo, 32, says they had just come back from church when the incident happened.
“It was around 5pm and we had come back from church and my brother asked if he could borrow the car to go pick up his child,” she says.
“He took a while and when he came back we shouted at him and he went out to his friends, that is when they were shot at.”
Dyantyi says everyone ran for cover: “When we heard the gunshots we hid and locked the door and the shots went on for about 30 minutes.
“When we went out we saw them laying on the ground and some of them were still alive.”
The traumatised vrou says they rushed the four survivors to hospital, but only one made it.
“My brother was not involved in any gangs so I don’t know why anyone would shoot them,” says the sobbing sister.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa says Nyanga detectives are seeking the assistance of the public as they investigate four cases of murder and one of attempted murder.
She says no arrests have been made yet.
Anyone with information about the incident can contact Detective Captain Mlonyeni on 083 719 3621 or Detective Captain Pakaman 082 469 2470.
