VICTIM: Lewellyn ‘Welly’ Maggot

Cops are looking for suspects who shot and killed a man who had just walked into a former merchant’s home.

The owner of the Bonteheuwel house says Lewellyn “Welly” Maggot, 32, was visiting her when he was attacked.

Sumayah Mohammed, 35, tells the Daily Voice her friend may not have been the intended target.

“I was not home when he came here, I just heard after the shooting. I think that people are just targeting this house,” she adds.

“We sold drugs here, but we stopped selling about a year ago, when a man was killed in the same manner as Welly.”

She confirmed he used to be a gang member, but says he had changed his ways.

“He was in the Stupa Boys, and he stopped after his brother was killed. He was turning his life around, he went to Joburg and found a job.

“He was back for about a week and now the first day he came to my place, he was killed.”

Lewellyn’s body was discovered by tenant Thelma Abrahams, 35, who alerted other people in the house.

“I heard about five gunshots and then after that my son said there was someone lying on the passage to the door,” says Thelma.

“When I went to see, it was Welly, he was lying on his back and he had gunshot wounds to his face and head. His eye was shot out and blood was streaming out of his head.”
