CONTAIN: Firefighters at Starflex Packaging building fire in Killarney Gardens

Three buildings were completely gutted in a moerse blaze in Killarney Gardens over the weekend.

The fire broke out at Starflex Packaging in Lauda Road on Saturday night, quickly engulfing three buildings, all belonging to the plastics company.

Fire and Rescue spokesperson Jermaine Carelse says firefighters had their hands full when they arrived on the scene at 10.13pm.

A total of 52 firefighters were needed to bring the huge flames under control.

“The first arriving officer from Milnerton reported that the fire was spreading to adjacent buildings and requested more resources.

“In total, 13 firefighting appliances and 52 staff members managed to extinguish the fire just after 4am,” says Carelse.

At around 1am, a small number of people had gathered, but none of them were the owners of the four buildings that had been gutted.

The Daily Voice was unable to reach the owners of Starflex for comment on Sunday.

Yesterday afternoon, a small contingent of fire rescue teams were still on the scene to ensure public safety.

“Crews are still monitoring the area for any flare-ups that may occur,” said Carelse.

“No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is unknown,” he added.
