ARREST: Burglary suspect

A dom skelm from the Southern Suburbs has finally ended up behind bars after allegedly escaping police custody and evading cops for months.

The man, known to patrollers in Wynberg and Plumstead for breaking into homes, was nabbed on Friday by officers from Combat Force after patrons at a restaurant piemped him.

Combat Force Manager Michael Cameron explains: “At about 7pm, the suspect approached patrons at Bongos Restaurant wanting to sell this expensive bike worth nearly R40 000 for just a couple of hundred rands.

“Officers Robin Fernandez and Riedewaan Heynes questioned him.”

On arrival, the officers found the skelm in possession of a brand-new Darrvin Evolve X bike worth nearly R40 000.

VALUE: Bike is almost R40 000

“He claimed that he got it for work he had done, but could not say what type of work or where so he was taken to Diep River SAPS where he was arrested for being in possession of suspected stolen goods.

“He is known for theft and housebreaking in the area and at the station they said he was wanted on several cases, including an escape from custody case in Athlone.”

ARREST: Burglary suspect

Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, confirms the arrest and says the 25-year-old man will appear in Wynberg Magistrates’ Court today.

“The owner of the bicycle could not be traced yet,” he says.

“The suspect has pending cases in Manenberg, Wynberg and in Diep River.

“In Wynberg it is a theft case, in Diep River it is a housebreaking case and in Manenberg there is an attempted murder case where the next court date is 15 April.”
