A father, who witnessed his son’s murder, has been left crippled with shock.

Selwyn du Plessis, 53, watched as a security guard allegedly opened fire at 15-year-old Carl.

His niece Lee-Anne Lot, 34, said the family wants justice for what happened on Monday at a petrol station in Macassar.

“It is clear that the security guard who shot Carl did it on purpose. He shot him three times, in the heart, the stomach and leg,” she says.

“If the situation was uncomfortable he could have fired a warning shot in the air.”

Carl and his dad went to a hardware store when Selwyn realised his tyre was flat.

“As he was about to drive to the garage he saw the SBV vehicle was blocking them,” she says.

“He asked them if he could pass so he could go to the Engen garage to pump the wheel.

“The security guard swore at him, my uncle decided to go around.

“While at the garage the security guard went to the car and started a fight.”

She says Carl intervened and was shot dead.

“He was killed trying to defend his father. He asked them to leave his dad.

“He pushed the suspect who pushed back and shot at him three times.”

SBV Group CEO Mark Barrett expressed his condolences to the family and confirmed their employee is in police custody.

SAPS’ Noloyiso Rwexana says a man, 34, was arrested for murder and is to appear in the Somerset West Magistrates’ Court today.
