Cops made a multi-million drug bust in Ravensmead when they intercepted a shipment in transit.
According to police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa, members of the Provincial Integrated Team with Rapid Rail police followed up on a tip-off about an exchange of drugs on Saturday evening.
“The team observed boxes being offloaded from one vehicle onto another. They pursued the vehicle with the consignment and stopped it on Robert Sobukwe Road in Ravensmead.”
She says after searching the vehicle the police discovered 75 000 mandrax tablets with an estimated value of R3 million.
“Information at the disposal of police indicates the drugs were destined for Johannesburg.
“A 29-year-old male was arrested. He is expected to appear in court [today] on charges of dealing in drugs.
“The efforts of the team are commended by SAPS management for such a significant seizure.”
In another drug bust, Bonteheuwel Ward councillor Angus McKenzie applauded the collaboration between Law Enforcement officers and residents after a “well-known dealer” was arrested, also on Saturday.
According to McKenzie, residents piemped the mert, and Law Enforcement officers swooped on a house in Kameelboom Street.
“On arrival, they found a number of people who were acting suspiciously, officers proceeded to search the property and found a large quantity of tik and cash.
“A suspect was arrested, it has also been determined that the suspect is out on parole for various gang-related crimes.
“The individual known to many to be a problem in the area has now been arrested again while on parole which once again highlights the failure of the criminal justice system and the negative effects it has on our community.”
