GOOD NEWS: Leigh Anne with aunt Grietjie

Tears flowed when Aunt Grietjie from Sir Lowry’s Pass recently received news of her two siblings after 45 years.

This was made possible by the Track and Trace Unit who were approached by Fourie Davids, one of the siblings currently living in the Eastern Cape.

“On Sunday, I managed to locate a 58-year-old man’s long lost relatives that he has not seen or heard of for the past 45 years,” says Track and Trace-member Leigh Anne Theunissen.

“It was a really emotional experience.

“As a team we have also made the travelling arrangements for them to meet as soon as possible.”

Theunissen says, according to Davids, he and two of his siblings were separated from the family when his dad moved to the Eastern Cape for work.

“They were living in the Strand before they left. They left the mother with five other siblings and were supposed to return in December of 1976.

“Unfortunately their father became ill and was unable to bring them to Cape Town.

“Davids had to find work at the age of 15 to care for his father and three siblings.”

Due to the father’s condition, rendering him voiceless and sick, they could not get information about the family left behind.

“The mother was Elizabeth Davids and she moved around with her five children from a previous relationship. Only one daughter from that relationship is still alive.

“From the three children who went to Eastern Cape, only David and his youngest sister Mariana are still alive.”
