Stash of Cremora and Ricoffy worth nearly at Schaapkraal home.
Police helicopters swooped in on Schaapkraal on Friday morning as cops went on the hunt for truck hijackers who fled into the farmlands.
The dramatic scene played out in Olieboom Road shortly after 11am as the Western Cape K9 Unit, the provincial Anti-Hijacking Unit and Philippi SAPS descended on a property where cops discovered the stolen stash of Cremora and Ricoffy worth nearly R200 000.
Philippi police spokesperson, Captain Lance Goliath, says three armed skelms held up the truck driver in Brackenfell and forced him out of the vehicle.
“The three suspects were driving a white VW Polo and held the driver at gunpoint and forced him out of the vehicle,” he says.
“No shots were fired and he was not harmed during the ordeal. The driver went to Brackenfell SAPS to report the matter.”
Goliath explains the truck was spotted in Schaapkraal and cops quickly responded to the scene where they found the skelms had just offloaded the stash.
“It was discovered that the truck was brought to Schaapkraal and the Western Cape K9 Unit, the provincial Anti-Hijacking Unit and Philippi SAPS responded.
“On arrival, we found the truck abandoned in Olieboom Road and the VW Polo in 12th Avenue.
“It appears that the suspects ran into the bushes behind the Jim se Bos informal settlement and the SAPS helicopter was brought in to conduct an aerial search.”
Curious residents gathered around the property in Olieboom Road where cops found several boxes of Cremora coffee creamer, Ricoffy and hot chocolate stacked outside the house while the homeowners were questioned by detectives.
“The value of the goods is approximately R200 000 and at this stage no arrests have been made,” adds Goliath.
“It is unclear what the destination of the goods were or if the suspects had planned to resell it.”
