“It was established that an individual was assaulted, but he refused to lodge an official complaint,” said Traut.

Speaking to the Daily Voice on Sunday, a male pupil from Mondale High School said the popular annual matric post-valedictory party turned ugly when several cellphones went missing.

The teen, who asked not to be named, says: “There were people from a lot of schools like Mondale, Princeton, Lentegeur and Rocklands and everything was going lekker but then a paar people started missing their phones and then the arguments started.

“People started saying that there was a bra pickpocketing mense and I don’t know if he was the guy that everybody hit like that. I just picked up my stuff and stood on the side.”

The 18-year-old adds that during the fight, they discovered that not everyone present were pupils and that members of the Hard Livings gang had joined the jol.

“There were HLs there and they were threatening people not to say anything but there was so much going on at the same time.

“Those videos only showed one of the fights, but people were fighting over dop also, and then they started fighting because this one bumped into the wrong bra or maybe hit a girl by mistake. It was just a mad thing.”

A Princeton High pupil says his phone was stolen during the rol while one of his friends was pickpocketed before the fights started.

City Law Enforcement spokesperson Wayne Dyason says hundreds of matric learners were on the beach for the celebrations and cops battled to control them.

“One of the arrests was for interfering with officers during the course of their duties and encouraging others to urinate in public,” he said.

“The second person was arrested for riotous behaviour, assaulting an officer and malicious damage to property while a third suspect was arrested in Victoria Road after allegedly being caught red-handed by officers while removing wheel trims from stationary vehicles.”
