A Kraaifontein soccer team has been invited to a tournament in Slovenia but needs a helping hand getting there.

Belmont Spurs FC, founded in 2019, says they are supposed to leave next month but still needs funding for their young players from Wallacedene and Belmont Park for the tour.

Coach Brandon Timmy says: “We started the club to keep the kids away from the bad things here in our community.

“We have seen a tremendous change in our kids through the life of sport.

“We have now been graced with the opportunity to go to Slovenia. The DK Stars football club follows our work on social media and what we’re doing in the community and they want to see our skills over there.

“They said it was really amazing what we are doing in our club. They are giving us the opportunity to play against professional teams over there.

“The trials will start on 5 November until the 17th, however there is a cost of R36 000 per player.

“We want the community to support us because we are a community sport club, these are our future soccer players.”

Siyabonga Maquazim, the vice-captain of the men’s team, says: “I’m from Wallacedene and this is a great opportunity to show my talent.

“We hope to get a contract and to change lives with what we will learn in Europe.”
